REPLY: Oh my god. Seriously?
You DID NOT sue the University of Virginia seeking Michael Mann's emails? Excuse me? Then The University did what exactly with that $600,000 in legal fees? It didn't go towards reducing the cost of admission.
Yes, yes, I understand. You were trying to determine whether "state money" (it wasn't state money) was spent on bogus research. But that's NOT the government's call! How can you say you're anti-government intervention when the very act of sticking your nose into the validity (or not) of research is government intervention?! Who made you the god of science? And if we were to lay down and give you what you demanded, which you have no right to access, what precedence would that set? That all university research must meet the demands of the czar?
For those of you who didn't attend The University from 2007 to 2011, I'll tell you that U.Va. gave "the government" (joke, it's anyone whose interested. If you want Mann's data you can get it yourself.) Mann's research because it's more or less public knowledge. There aren't any hidden data points/research and were no secret destroy/shred meetings. No. What Cuccinelli wanted were Mann's private emails which supposedly prove that he was making up data to support climate change. He sued 3 times for these emails and 3 times the justice department said that he couldn't have them.
Now, there are enough cases of ACTUAL improper use of grants that are actually really easy to spot. Because what happens is that someone goes to repeat an experiment after reading the data/results of someone else (which is, you know, how science works) and finds that there is something fishy going on when their results don't match. THEN the investigations start and eventually someone has to pay back the money plus face ethics trials. Like I said, it's very difficult to fake science because it's pretty obvious when results don't match. Like that time I got a 20,000% error in chemistry one year. Even the teachers didn't know where I went wrong because my data seemed to be correct, but did NOT add up.
It'd be easy to see if Mann faked his data because there are thousands of other climate scientists doing their own research and it'd be pretty clear if his numbers started looking remarkably different. This isn't the case. In fact 95% of climate scientists see similar trends. But Cuccinelli would rather believe in a mass conspiracy.

| Wow, talk about a conflict of interest. As Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli is responsible for providing advice to the state Board of Elections on legal issues relating to campaigns and elections — including his own campaign for governor.  That means he's responsible for issuing legal opinions about the implementation of voting and election laws, and will be the Board's go-to lawyer if there are any problems or irregularities on Election Day! If Ken Cuccinelli wants to resolve this stunning conflict of interest, he should recuse himself and his office from election matters immediately. Sign our petition to call on Ken Cuccinelli to restore voters' trust by recusing himself from advising the Board of Elections. Ken Cuccinelli isn't the first Attorney General to run for governor of Virginia. But he did break a long-standing bipartisan tradition by flat out refusing to step down during the campaign. In recent history, former attorneys general have resigned because of the time commitments of a gubernatorial campaign (when Governor McDonnell stepped aside, he said a campaign "preclude[s] you from working full-time as attorney general") and because of the inevitable conflicts of interest that arise for any attorney general who is also a candidate for governor. Earlier this month, the Daily Press Editorial Board called on Cuccinelli to step aside, explaining, "if a Democratic campaign needs clarification on a legal matter, it must seek guidance from an office headed by the Republican candidate for governor. And if questions arise for the GOP, the attorney general's office cannot be expected to give counsel to a ticket headed by its own boss." This past week was a great and exciting one for our campaign that kicked off with an important endorsement from the political arm of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC). After conducting in person interviews featuring a thorough review of each candidate’s platform and proposals, the group determined that Ken’s experience and command of the issues are what Virginia needs. They agreed that Ken’s substantive economic plan to create 58,000 new, good paying jobs and lower taxes on both individuals and businesses is the best approach for Virginia’s future. Hearing the news, Ken was thrilled saying that, “NVTC is one of the premier business organizations in America” and that he was grateful for their support.
On Friday, Ken took a strong stand against President Obama’s new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations that effectively ban the production of new coal-fired plants in Southwest Virginia or anywhere else. These new rules are more than just a threat to affordable energy that heats our homes and fuels our economy; they are the latest escalation in the war on coal that has and will continue to devastate entire communities and hike electricity rates for families and businesses across the Commonwealth. Ken has a proven record of standing up for Virginia. As Attorney General, he teamed up with the Democrat-controlled Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to fight the EPA and won. As Ken said yesterday, he’s “the only candidate in this race who has fought to protect Virginia jobs and sensible energy policy that keeps electricity costs manageable,” and he’ll continue to do that as Governor.
Also this week, Florida Republicans Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio joined Ken on the campaign trail. Former Governor Bush talkedabout Ken’s bold plan to give parents more options so that no child is stuck in a failing school, and he got it right when he said that “Ken is exactly the type of solid principled leader Virginia needs to grow the economy, create jobs and ease burdens on middle class families.” In Richmond, Senator Rubio spoke about what’s at stake in this year’s election and contrasted Ken’s strong support of free enterprise and limited government with his opponent.
With that in mind, and the election is just six weeks away, now is the time for all of Ken’s supporters to rally together for one big push to help us cross the finish line. Ken has spent his entire career fighting for Virginia, now it’s time for you to fight for him.
Here’s are few actions you can take to help Ken secure victory on November 5th:
- Knock on 100 doors
- Find ten people and convince them to vote for Ken
- Share Ken’s substantive policy proposals with friends and family
- Volunteer at one of our call centers
This has been a great week, but we have a lot of work to do to spread Ken’s positive message across the Commonwealth. We need your help to keep the momentum going. It’s absolutely critical in the final weeks.

58,000 jobs is next to nothing. And in exactly what fields are we talking? Where are these jobs coming from? Or must the plan be secretive so that McAuliffe cannot steal it?
VA already has some of the lowest business taxes in the country. At the same time many, many communities in the state are having to raise local taxes in order to pay for their most basic needs. These are small communities with a small economic base to begin with. I understand that you're anti-socialist, but at some point the "haves" have got to contribute to the well being of the "have nots". I think that the businesses in Arlington are more than capable of handing over a few pennies so that Hayes can have a fire department.
As for children being "stuck in failing schools", how is that flying carpet technology coming along? Because you seem to be expecting poor families to magically be able to get their children to and from the good schools (transportation problems). Also, are you working on a magical expansion spell? Because the good schools aren't able to accept an unlimited number of students. Kids aren't chickens and need a minimum amount of elbow room. Also, will we be importing teachers from outer space? Or do you think that even if transportation and space weren't the problem, one teacher would do a great job teaching a class of 500 kindergartners?
The solution isn't to get kids out of failing schools. The solution is to get the parents who care about their own kids to also step up and care about the neighbors kids. And when you start giving the parents who care a way out of the failing schools all you're going to be left with is a school full of kids whose parents DON'T care.
