Forget Iowa and New Hampshire, friend. The 2016 Republican presidential primary season starts this week in Virginia when a parade of the most likely candidates starts hitting the campaign trail for Ken Cuccinelli — and perhaps their future presidential campaigns. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are up first, and they'll be followed before Election Day by at least two more — Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Bush, Rubio and the others can draw big crowds, and they'll headline fundraisers that will bring in hundreds of thousands of right wing special interest dollars for the Cuccinelli campaign. I've worked on a lot of tight races, so I can tell you that money can make a huge difference at this stage of the game. Reply: Your first two "By the Numbers" are opinions only. They are not based on any fact except what the people polled THINK will happen. As the program has yet to be implemented, actual effects are as yet unknown.

$255 increase in household premiums every month. WHY? Convince me that insurance companies aren't artificially increasing rates because they can blame it on the law. 

Why will 7 million people lose their employer based health insurance? What changes are being made BY THE LAW which makes employers who could afford to offer insurance suddenly not? Or, again, are employers dropping coverage simply because they can blame it on the law rather than because they expect it to cost them more?

How about providing some different numbers? Such as the total amount spent on health care last year alone? How much of that was out of individuals pockets? How much by insurance companies? How much by the government? How much are health care costs expected to rise in the next few years? What are THOSE projected increases in premiums?

Which costs more in the long run: an insured person or an uninsured person?

Game of Thrones by Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Friend -- "The louder they scream, the more we know we're getting something done." That's not a line from one of the bad guys on Game of Thrones. That's something that Texas Governor Rick Perry actually said this week about his own constituents -- the ones fighting for women's health. He was referring to the sweeping anti-choice legislation that he's trying to ram through in the Texas state legislature -- legislation that was blocked earlier this week by a courageous group of legislators led by State Senator Wendy Davis -- which would have the effect of shutting down access to basic health care for many women across the state. I don't understand how Rick Perry could look at what happened in the Texas state house this week -- where thousands of Texans gathered to support Wendy and her colleagues against this extreme anti-woman legislation -- and take it as a sign that he's doing a good job. But that's what we're up against. A lot of people thought the Republicans would take a lesson from the loss we handed them last November -- I certainly hoped they would moderate their policies and rhetoric, especially towards women and other underrepresented groups.
